It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Students are registering for classes, buying books, and packing their bags. Residential Assistants are feverishly working on bulletin boards and door decorations. Student Affairs staff are training student leaders, coordinating arrival logistics, and putting the finishing touches on their Welcome Week programs. The new academic year is upon us and many colleges are welcoming students to campus for the first time since Spring 2020.

New But Not: Supporting Sophomores in 2021

My sophomore year was hard. I had just been dumped by my boyfriend, which meant I needed to find a whole new friend group. I was transitioning into my role as an RA and trying to get more involved with organizations on campus. I felt pressured to declare a major and wasn’t sure what my career path would be.

But I had been on campus before. I knew my way to most of my classes and I knew which dining halls had the best food. I had already survived my first year in a residence hall and developed study techniques that didn’t require parental encouragement.

That's a Wrap! CampusGroups Rendez-Vous '22 Conference Was a Hit!

On Friday, April 8th, the CG team was beyond thrilled to host our 2nd annual virtual conference with our wonderful campus partners!

We were delighted to gather together and connect with so many creative and innovative campus leaders at CampusGroups Rendez-Vous ‘22! It was such a pleasure to see and hear from the incredible members of the CG community! 💙

Over 400 attendees from 12 countries and 141 campuses around the globe joined us for an exciting day of discussions, inspiration, discovery and new connections!

11 presenters from 8 institutions shared creative ways they have been adapting and innovating to keep their students connected and engaged.

How To Increase Connectivity with a Multi-Hub Campus Portal: Johns Hopkins University Campus Spotlight

In July 2020, Johns Hopkins University (JHU) America's first research university launched CampusGroups at its Homewood and Peabody campuses. Homewood is the university’s main campus and home to two major undergraduate schools.

A year after, it rolled out the community platform university wide. Spread over nine campuses and three continents, JHU has over 30,000 students, including over 20,000 graduate students.

Due to the university’s structure, JHU implemented the CampusGroups Portal feature (“Hopkins Groups”) with multiple Community Hubs. One for each campus.

This has enabled each campus to have a custom landing page and menu, creating a personalized experience for students and administrators.

According to Calvin Smith, JHU’s Director of Student Leadership and Involvement, this rollout increased connectivity across JHU campuses. The biggest windfalls reportedly are:

Increased student engagement.
A better user experience.
More granular involvement stats.
