/At CampusGroups, we believe that our team is accomplishing incredible things every day. Every single member of our team is truly passionate about shaping the future of higher education technology and unlocking the potential of students and student-led organizations to Connect, Engage and Succeed.
In this behind-the-scenes series, we are introducing each one of our team members one by one.
Meet Stephanie, Marketing & Business Development Coordinator
Q: Can you introduce yourself?
A: Hi! My name is Stephanie Chandra. I joined CG in 2014 and have spent time in multiple offices (Paris —> Austin —> NYC). I’m a native Texan, but have lived primarily in NYC since 2004. I currently reside in Manhattan with my husband, daughter and a maltipoo puppy named Potato, who loves to visit the CampusGroups office — you can see her on our Instagram from time to time!
Q: Why did you decide to join the company? What drew your motivation?
A: It was my goal at the time to transition into the tech industry and to find a home at an impactful and creative company building solutions that truly change lives (not just helping people order food from their couch faster, although I certainly appreciate that software’s existence, too).
When I was in college, we did not have any sort of engagement platform. If you didn’t see a flyer posted somewhere, some chalk on the ground or hear about it from a friend, you didn’t know an event, trip, club meeting or volunteer opportunity was happening. An unbelievable collection of missed opportunities. Maybe I would have joined the Outdoor Adventure Club if I knew it existed… might have even run for an officer role.
When I discovered CampusGroups, I could immediately see that this is a product that opens up limitless possibilities for many people. One platform that could help a student affairs professional easily gather and use actionable data to create and optimize their enriching programs, to identify and support a student in danger of dropping out, to incentivize and recognize the most active students on campus. The same platform could convince a freshman to try a new skill or hobby, to help a transfer student make new friends, to equip a team of club officers with tools to collaborate and enhance their annual fall conference, and to turn the quiet kid in the back of the class into the leader she was meant to be but didn’t know of the opportunities happening around her to get her there.
I really love that we can help so many people.
Q: What is your role and what are your missions?
A: I collaborate with cross-functional teams (marketing & sales, design, development and support) to enhance our outreach and help people discover what we do, and all that you can do with the extensive tools and functionality that CampusGroups has to offer. Most of the time you can find me developing and executing marketing campaigns and creating branded digital assets such as web pages, blogs, newsletters, email series, case studies, webinars, conference materials and more.
My mission is to learn from our users to enhance our features and create new capabilities based on their feedback, and in the other direction, to work with our developers to help us communicate what we’re building and how schools can benefit from it. One of my favorite things is getting to see how our schools are using their platforms and data to create amazing programs to support their students and give them enriching opportunities to learn outside of the classroom, to become leaders, to expand their networks and to develop transferable skills while in school.
Q: How was CampusGroups five years ago, and how did it feel seeing it growing in the past years?
A: When I first joined the team, it was a very technical bunch. I was awed by our engineers’ skill, passion and dedication. We were building amazing things, but there was a challenge in getting the word out about just how powerful and customizable the platform truly is.
Gradually, we have expanded our creative and campus success teams, so the conversations have certainly evolved. We all work closely alongside each other with our developers, designers, campus relations and support teams, communicating constantly across four cities throughout the day. We have become better and better at unveiling an amazing product.
Q: Where can we usually find you during weekends? What are your hobbies, what do you like to do outside of work?
A: I write, record and perform music, and I’m currently playing guitar in an indie rock trio. On the weekends, I’m usually at a rehearsal, checking out a new band, or spending time with my family — we’re concert-goers, gamers, readers and novice archers. I also love to run outdoors, bike and explore different types of fitness classes.
Q: What advice would you give to a new student at one of our universities?
A: Try new things, join multiple groups, sign up for and attend events happening around you. You might meet your new best friend, your future business partner, or discover a talent or passion you had no idea you possessed. Consider taking on a leadership role and helping to create events on your campus — you will add to your résumé and build opportunities for your classmates to get involved.
Spend time outdoors, connect with your school’s alumni network to learn about an industry that interests you, and above all else, study abroad if you can make it happen. Challenge yourself and create some amazing stories.
