Our belief is that by embracing diversity, we can foster a better experience for our team, partner campuses and students. In this endeavor, we are consistently growing as a company. In 2021, we welcomed 17 unique professionals to the CG team.
This post introduces Liberty Doyle and Michael Wilson. Below, Liberty and Michael tell us about their professional background, what brought them to CG, and what makes them tick.
Liberty Doyle
Liberty joined CG as a Product Support & Solution Specialist. Like many of our team members, she lives in Buffalo, New York.
Libertyโs background is in customer service. She held several roles in this space prior to joining CG. To learn more about Libertyโs role and the Product Support & Solution Team, please read our blog featuring this amazing team.
Outside of CG, Liberty has many hobbies. An avid animal lover, she particularly enjoys aqua scaping and will jump at the opportunity to be a foster parent to litters of kittens.
Michael Wilson
Michael joined CG as Full Stack Developer. Based out of Asheville, North Carolina he holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oklahoma.
A self-taught web developer, Michael transitioned from architecture to building software in 2018. He is fluent in several programming languages and frameworks, including Javascript, SQL, and React.
Outside of work, Michael has many passions. He is a carpenter, musician, and visual artist. Recently he has also gotten into learning about the stock market and crypto.
Tell us about your professional background. What does your unique experience bring to the team and company?
LIBERTY:
My career has been focused on Customer Service and employee training. On the Product Support & Solutions team, my experience helps us break down our process. It is also helpful in analyzing how we interact with our Campus Partners.
I love to identify ways in which we can improve our communication to ensure complete customer satisfaction. My experience also brings a new perspective on what is needed in terms of our own training process and ensuring the success of our new hire training program.
MICHAEL:
Before becoming a programmer, I was an architect. My training and experience in architecture shaped me into a creative problem solver. I can focus on both the big picture and the details, from a design and technical perspective.
These skills translated seamlessly into the world of software when I made the switch in 2018. I have also worked in several creative roles, including construction, carpentry, visual arts and music, which also bring a fresh perspective to my role as a developer.
Tell us a fun and surprising fact about yourself!
LIBERTY:
I am an avid animal lover. I will take advantage of any opportunity to be a foster parent to litters of kittens.
MICHAEL:
In 2017-2018, I traveled with a friend to 13 countries. Among my favorite countries to discover was Vietnam. My friend and I bought motorcycles and stayed for over 2 months.
What made you decide to join CampusGroups (CG)?
LIBERTY:
I heard a lot about the company culture at CG and had been seeking new opportunities. CG provided me with the opportunity to transition from the Call Center Customer Service environment to a more tech-based position. This was an amazing learning opportunity for me, and I am so happy I joined the team.
MICHAEL:
My longtime friend and now colleague CG Sales Account Executive, Nathan Renner told me about the opportunity. He spoke highly about the company and team, and wasnโt wrong. There truly is such a great sense of community and company culture!
What is it in this new adventure that drives/excites you?
LIBERTY:
I am most excited about continuing to expand my product knowledge and helping our Campus Partners be successful. I also enjoy helping my fellow peers. As part of our new hire training program, I support our reps and provide them with the resources they need to succeed.
MICHAEL:
I am generally excited about the future of technology, seeing what is possible and being a part of making it. I love to learn and will never stop trying to expand my own limits.
What is the app or software you canโt live without?
LIBERTY:
Gmail and Google Calendar are essential to keeping my life in order. We all lead busy lives, both in and out of our careers. Having a way to organize all of it in one place is key.
I keep my schedule linked into Gmail, allowing those who work closely with me to see my agenda each day. This also helps me keep track of my upcoming meetings on a daily basis. When I have a busy week ahead, I take the time to look at my calendar in advance to set myself up for a successful week/month and maintain my engagements.
MICHAEL:
Probably Google Maps, as silly as that may sound. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to maps and geography.
What do you like to do outside of work?
LIBERTY:
I enjoy a variety of hobbies. I love most things outdoors; camping, kayaking, exploring nature, photography, and recreational summer sports. I also enjoy a lot of indoor activities, including fish keeping, aquascaping, small scale lizard keeping, and maintaining an array of household plants.
MICHAEL:
In theory I love hiking, rock climbing, and basketball. However, in practice and like many other team members, I watch a lot of movies and play video games. Recently, I have also gotten into investing and learning about the stock market and crypto.
What steps have you taken at your current (or last) employer to create an inclusive work or learning environment?
LIBERTY:
Currently, I am working alongside my manager and a few peers to help expand our training program. Our aim is to provide more people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to thrive in a new environment and have proper, in-depth training.
MICHAEL:
Honestly, I didnโt have to do much at CampusGroups. This environment already existed, for which I am grateful. Little things like sharing about ourselves, our pets, music, and movies we like, and other interests with each other goes a long way to creating a supportive environment.
We are grateful for the expertise, hard work and positive attitudes that Liberty and Michael bring to our team. In the coming weeks we will be introducing more of our wonderful and unique colleagues. Please stay tuned.
